It was calving weekend out at our family farm this weekend. The whole darn family gathered into the farm house for the weekend anxiously awaiting the birth of several, if not many, new baby calves. We were off to a good start when 10 minutes after Daren and I showed up I spotted baby #1!
I am still so proud that I spotted our first calf ever.
Then we waited.
Those dear ladies left us waiting all weekend long. As my six year old nephew Connor put it, “These cows have had like 23 million subtractions with just the one baby!”
Finally, after I had us running out to the fields on a false alarm Daren spotted Mama #7 just as she was about to deliver her baby. We rounded up the everyone who was out there and all got to witness baby boy #7A come into this world. We were a big line of cameras and binoculars at the fence line for the full hour. It was a nice reward after “staring at cow butts” ,as my nephew Levi put it, for so many hours waiting on our calves.
Hopefully by the end of the week we have all of our babies running around the fields.
